Accountability
I find the idea of a coach providing accountability for someone to be fundamentally flawed.
The only person that can be accountable for your health and fitness is you.
Yes, in the 12+ years I have trained individuals and groups I understand that some people will only workout with a trainer, in a group, or follow a program from their coach.
However, they are the ones that hold themselves accountable.
The idea that a coach provides accountability is erroneous.
They can still:
-choose to blow off the personal training appointment (I have had this happen)
-choose to not show up to the group (I have definiteley seen this)
-choose to not follow their program (seen this too)
You can argue that they wouldn’t adhere to their workouts or have consistency without a coach.
That may be so, but that doesn’t mean that the coach provides accountability.
Coaches who promote themselves as doing this for others likely don’t understand what accountability is.
The word is literally account-ability and by saying we provide this for others it takes away their ability to do so for themselves.
You are the only one that can hold yourself accountable.
This is both scary and empowering.
It is scary because you are the one that is responsible for your health and fitness and it is empowering for the same reason.
